Festival 2009 - Fèis 2009

Gary Innes & Ewan Robertson - An Lanntair, Thursday afternoon

Gary Innes & Ewan Robertson

Accordion wizard Gary has performed throughout the world with regular tours in locations as diverse as Kazakhstan, China, USA and all over Europe. His highly distinctive style has led to him making live appearances with many of folk's biggest names including Runrig who also used his shinty-playing image on the front cover of their latest album. Gary brings his lightning quick style of melody playing and a plethora of distinctive and quirky self-penned melodies to the fore with accordion outfit Box Club in addition to many other projects.

Singer/guitarist Ewan began learning fiddle and chanter at the age of seven through the local Fèis movement and went onto study at the National Centre of Excellence for Traditional Music. A shortage of accompanists led Ewan to experimenting with the guitar and he used the vibrant session scene in Glasgow to develop a very driving style of guitar accompaniment. Ewan became the first singer/guitarist to win the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year Award in 2008 and helped form award winning band Breabach.

For this concert the duo, who have long been firm friends and are currently recording a duo album, are accompanied by distinctive percussionist Martin O'Neill
