Family Concerts

Wednesday, 16th July – Friday, 18th July, 1pm – 2pm: Town Hall, Stornoway

Bring along the young ones and relax in the company of some fine musicians.

This fabulous family event provides the ideal opportunity for the young ones to experience their first festival concert.

The event is free and unticketed so get there early to avoid disappointment.

Sail Hebrides Maritime Festival - 14th – 19th July
Stornoway Town Harbour

Annual Maritime Festival that encourages young people, particularly from the Hebrides, to enjoy sailing in a variety of interesting boats.

The Maritime Festival brings visiting boats from around the UK, Europe and even from the USA who enjoy sailing with other boats, competing against them and meeting new people.

Harris Tweed Evening - Wednesday, 16th July 8.30pm (and throughout summer)
Harris Hotel, Tarbert, Isle of Harris

Covering the story of tweed from the fleece to the finished garment. Dyers, spinners and weavers will demonstrate their skills. With historical background from Bill Lawson and songs from local singers, including part of the waulking process, this is a highly colourful and entertaining evening. A chance to experience the process in the home of Harris Tweed weaving.

Stornoway Through Time - Thursday 17th July and Friday, 18th
Amity House, Stornoway

Tour guide Mary McCormack will take you for a leisurely stroll through Stornoway, giving a flavour of its history, people and buildings.  The walks will start at 12pm from Amity House, Esplanade Road, Stornoway, and will last approximately 2 hours.  There is no charge for this service.

Lewis Highland Games - Saturday, 16th July
Tong, Isle of Lewis

The 2008 Games looks to be yet another exciting event for the now well established Lewis Highland Games in Tong which will see the welcome return of last year's favourite event the stunning free fall parachute display by the Royal Regiment of Scotland Golden Lions.

In keeping with a military theme the Games will for the first time host a living medieval village with activities such as combat displays performed by a historical re-enactment society that brings our Scottish history to life. Other events include ever-popular Highland Dancing Competition, Heavy events, Piping Competition and a growing and successful Field and Athletic competitions. 

A shuttle bus will run from Stornoway Bus Station from 12pm throughout the afternoon.

Hebridean Celtic Festival Shinty Challenge Cup – Saturday, 5th April Uist, Saturday, 19th July, Stornoway

This year the inter-island shinty challenge features Camanachd Leòdhais and Uist Camanachd battling for the Inter Island Challenge Cup sponsored by the Hebridean Celtic Festival.

The first leg at Paible School Pitch in North Uist starts at 12pm, the second leg will take place on 19th July. Come along and see this historical game being fought amongst two of the island's keenest teams.
