4 men and a dog

Festival 2008 - Fèis 2008

Four Men & a Dog - Thursday

A huge festival favourite, Four Men & a Dog have made a big name for themselves with their eclectic and vivacious blend of traditional Irish music plus a wide spectrum of other genres, including Southern rock, jazz, blues, bluegrass, polka, country swing, and even salsa. They are renowned for a high-energy approach that combines furious traditional dance tunes with irreverent new music and inimitable covers.

"Barking Mad", their debut album, snagged an award for Album of the Year from Folk Roots magazine in 1991, marking the first time that an Irish group had ever won the prize. Their latest release – "Wallop the Dog" – expertly illustrates their unique sound with a familiar mix of jigs, reels, polkas, songs and a whole stack of flavours from way outside the Irish tradition.

Their line-up consists of Donal Murphy (accordion) Gerry O'Connor (Banjo) Cathal Hayden (fiddle) Kevin Doherty (guitar/lead singer) Gino Lupari (percussion).
